Finally Managed to Make it into Zimbabwe – Now we’re Ready to Hunt!
I’m here for a mixed safari including airgun, rifle and bow hunting for a variety of different species.
I’ve brought with me my Stiller Predator with March 2.5-25×42, Daystate Air Ranger 80 & March 1-10×24, Sauer 202 & Zeiss 4-16×50 and Bear Carnage bow. There’s even a chance of some bow fishing too!
The trip from South Africa was pretty painless, although I got severely stung for baggage charges again by South African Airlines. Seems they can make their minds up as to what the rules are!
But after touching down in Bulawayo, and a little wrangling with the paperwork, we had a nice smooth drive up to the hunting area.
After my previous adventures across Africa, I was expecting plenty of problems during our journey, particularly with the bad press Zimbabwe has received in recent years. However, there was nothing of the sort!
The countryside here is just stunning. Deep thick brushland with huge granite mountains jutting up into the sky. This certainly is ‘Wild Africa!’
The Bubiana Estate covers around 30,000 hectares with around 200 hectares of mixed arable farmland and the rest untouched bush.
The stunning Bubiana Lodge is some 45 km from the main highway, set atop a huge granite slab. All around is open bushland and home to an abundant game population.
The lodge can accommodate 14 people in comfort and is well set up for families. There’s also a ‘Tented Camp’ with fully equipped tents, each with hot & cold running water, showers and even a toilet!
I’ll be staying at the lodge, and popping down to the office every few days to post updates. This will be the longest I’ve ever been without a phone, but at least there’s wifi here to keep me in touch!
