My most incredible stalk ever!

It’s my third visit to Nduna Hunting Safaris in South Africa‘s East Cape. Nduna Lodge is situated a few miles from Alexandria and is home to a healthy population of African game. I’ve hunted a variety of game during my time at Nduna – with rifle and bow – but it’s the latter that keeps pulling me back for more! Some of my best ever stalks ever have taken place at Nduna with my bow – but I’ve often emerged empty handed! However yesterday was to end in triumph! I’d been stalking a herd of zebra for two days solid Read More

Danner Jackal GTX Boots in Realtree APG

I received my new Jackal GTX II Boots in Realtree APG from Danner shortly before leaving for my month long safari in South Africa and Zimbabwe – and how pleased am I that they arrived in time! I almost exclusively wear lightweight technical footwear when hunting in Africa, preferably a canvass/nylon upper with breathable waterproof liner. This means my feet can breathe when on the move, but stay dry during the early morning stalks in the long grass. Weight is also an important consideration. Now that I’m spending a lot of time bow hunting and my rifle hunting will increasingly Read More

Shot my first ever Georgia Eastern Turkey today!

They say patience is a virtue – that must mean that after this hunt Joey and I will almost surely be due for a sainthood. However, they also say that good things come to those who wait, and boy did they get that part right! Today was my second days hunting at the Pine Ridge Hunting Plantation in south west Georgia, and up until tonight we hadn’t even seen a turkey! It’s quite late in the turkey season here in Georgia, in fact it finishes tomorrow – which also happens to be my last days hunting. We’ve been hunting in Read More

Getting ready for my turkey hunt with Pine Ridge.

I’ve had an incredible day. I was sad to leave my Princess, who had to fly back to the UK, but my flight to Atlanta from LAX with Delta was smooth and comfortable. Despite our late arrival at 12.30am, the ground staff at the fabulously modern Atlanta Airport were incredibly friendly and helpful. I managed to get a super discount on a larger, more comfortable car from Avis and the Holiday Inn Express was clean and comfortable with a huge bed. Not a bad start! On my way from Atlanta Airport to Pine Ridge Hunting Plantation, I stopped off at Read More

My first black wildebeest with my new Bear Carnage Bow

It only took 3 days and 14 stalks, but I finally bagged my first black wildebeest with my new Bear Carnage compound bow This old boy had been pushed out of the herd by a younger bull and had taken up residence with a group of blesbok. Like most plains game, he stayed away from cover in the middle of the plains and used the other animals to warn him of our approach. It was a stroke of luck that we managed to get him. He’d rejoined the herd of wildebeest and we’d stalked to cover some 80 yards away. Read More
